Common name: Silver Torch

Cleistocactus strausii, commonly known as the Silver Torch Cactus is perhaps one of the most elegant of all cactus, with its perfectly vertical, fat, snow-white stems reaching up to 5.5 feet tall. The brilliant white color of its spines set off deep magenta red flowers that are borne up and down its silvery sides during the spring and summer months. Versatile from coast and coastal plain to the hot desert, however good drainage is important; and extra water and fertilizer are essential in the hottest of desert climates. Grow in full sun. Incredible spiking up as a backdrop for Golden Barrels or compact Agave varieties!
