Opuntia utahensis hyb. ‘Sparkles’

Opuntia utahensis hybrid, commonly known as Sparkles Blooming Cactus. Sparkles has unique “freckles” of maroon coloration in dots, against light green to almost soft turquoise on compact, round shaped little cactus pads. The pads then turn a rich wine color in winter. This coloration is most pronounced during the cold season and almost disappears during summer, but not before highlights of brilliant carmen pink colored flowers garland the low-growing plant in spring! Over-all height only about 8-10”, slowly spreading in 2-3’ wide clump. Happy in snow country, or the desert; hardy to below zero. Full sun, to filtered light, especially in desert environment.
