Common Name: Golden Torch
The Trichocereus spachianus, commonly known as Golden Torch has nice, dark green spires of 3-4 inches thick stems covered with short, golden spines that give them an overall golden cast. It branches freely from the base growing into clumps of vertical stems reaching up to 5 feet tall, to bugle their huge 6 inch, white, night blooming flowers that last well into the next day. This is a very popular and well known variety that was exchanged by cuttings among neighbors during the last several decades throughout California coastal and central valley, and desert areas, as well as all through Mexico. When planted in hedges, it makes a beautiful and formidable fence. Hardy into the high teens.
