Calycephalus brownii-White Wire

Calycephalus brownii-White Wire

Intriguing plant that consists of silvery-white, wiry, leafless stems that grow in a dense ball up to 4’ all the way around. It can be lightly and regularly pruned to manage its size, and in fact we often enjoy keeping it very small as an interesting texture accent in potted plantings. The foliage is great in cut-flower arrangements, and can be dried and preserved. In the landscape, we like to use this plant in desert and rock gardens. In spring and early summer, it produces tiny little yellowish balls of flowers all over the plant. Definitely likes dry conditions, full sun, and will tolerate cold conditions down to the low 20’s. It’s fast growing and in fact, not a real permanent plant, so you might want to replace and start fresh every couple to every few years.
