San Diego Specialty Plants & Gardens

Waterwise Botanicals is more than a nursery and welcomes both homeowners and the landscape trade industry. We are always striving to assure convenience and confidence as we continue to offer quality and diversity of plant material. We have acres of beautiful nursery and growing grounds, including demonstration gardens, ponds, and a shade house full of creative treasures to inspire you.

We invite you to come and explore our location out in the country away from the stresses of daily life. We like to describe ourselves as having a touch of “rustic elegance”. Take time out to sit in our gazebo in the Cottage Garden, or bring a snack or lunch to enjoy at our picnic tables near our ponds.

Flower Gardens are fun I have a space in my yard for my “Flower Garden”. It’s “All About Flowers”. I just planted several packs of seeds during the last month, and now I wait to see what will happen. I tried this before with not much success, but I’m trying it again. I think it will help that I actually plant flowers also. It gives me hope that the plants and seeds will somehow encourage each other…that they will find their purpose in growing and blooming to create JOY when they are viewed (mostly by me). I’ve tried this before, but I’m still hopeful each time. The soil and sun…water and prayers should start resembling the vision of a graceful, flowering garden. My grandmother was a wonderful gardener. She could break off a “slip” of this, or that, and it would sprout roots in a glass of water in no time at all…then she’d plant it in the dirt, and before long it was a thriving bush. I think I would do better buying the thriving bush, planting it, and watching it bloom. I like instant gardening results. I also like “take-out” when I’m HUNGRY! I’ve also found that rather than baking cookies, there are several ones from the store that are tasty. I think that as we age, we don’t like to wait on things...Patience runs out. Fast food is better than it used to be (and quicker). Patience is truly an art to be admired and developed, however, I move and think a bit slower, and that is frustrating. Perhaps there is an element of art to everything that we do well. I guess I will start developing an attitude of patience when I garden. We have so many instant things…coffee (although, it’s not as good), instant pudding (although my grown children say my homemade was the BEST), instant movies on TV. Well…I guess I should keep trying a few flower seeds to develop patience, but it won’t hurt to plant some “BLOOMIN’ FLOWERS” either. Happy Planting, Jackie Jesch

SUNFLOWERS MAKE ME HAPPY I am a bit of an impulse buyer when I see flowers, or chocolate. I don’t really like to go grocery shopping. I do make a list as things are needed. It’s kept on the kitchen counter. I take it to the store with me. I pull it out of my purse as I enter the store. I get the cart and follow the list…until I see Flowers. I tell myself to stick to the list and get what we need. Then, I come to a display…it can be fruit or veggies, flowers or chocolate. I lose it! It looks like so much more fun than Dishwasher Soap or Toilet Paper. My cart gets filled with goodies and necessities alike, but the GOODIES make me smile. Then, I will inevitably see flowers in someone else’s cart and I’m a goner. I love Sunflowers. There are so many varieties to enjoy. I just cannot help but pick up a bunch of cut ones at the flower mart or grocery store. Their “happy faces” bring joy, and the golden sun color makes me smile. I guess you could call them a mood enhancer for the kitchen counter, dining table, or even for your desk. I have a little garden spot in our yard where I sow seeds, as well as plant flowers. I just love colorful gardens. I can’t resist a packet of seeds on the counter or from a display stand at the hardware store. I must admit I am not good at gardening by seed, but I keep trying…AND I also get pots of Sunflowers to pop into sunny places in our garden. Sometimes I’m lucky and they thrive, putting on a grand show, but other times, I get them for a short stay. Maybe because they are unpredictable, I SO ENJOY them while they are present. I invite you to take home a SUNFLOWER to enjoy the next time you see one. Maybe, they will have chocolate kisses at the check-out counter too. Jackie Jesch Waterwise Botanicals

A Plant Nursery & Nature Experience

It’s been said, we are a “Plant Lover’s Paradise”, so as you wander our growing grounds under the beautiful skies, in the hills of North County San Diego, discover the intriguing beauty of our drought tolerant selections and much more… Enjoy the diversity of succulents, or the structure and dynamic impact of cacti. Walk through row upon row of romantic roses and see the dance of ornamental grasses in the breeze. Delight in the grace of colorful perennials, and explore our shade house, a wonderland of fun, gifts and temptations.

Waterwise Botanicals is a place to dream and adventure… wear your comfy, but sturdy shoes and bring a camera to capture the ambiance of our unique nursery, rich in wildlife and nature. You are likely to see birds, and lizards, along with fish and frogs in our ponds. Occasionally, a turtle or two will climb out on a log to sun bathe. We are a working, growing, evolving nursery, so you will observe workers in the fields, or tractors loading plants and mixing soil, making your visit much like the fun of a field trip!
